64 7-begreat Gofpel-Myitery of the Saints colleen andbolinefl: *eft. 5 4.1f, cameand juftified the ungodly, when he jultified you : He comes, and he finds a poor foul in a finful condition, & he imputeshis righteoufnefs unto that fouI.., and juflifies anun- godly one, not juftifying him fo, as ego on in fin ; it is the word of the Apoftle, He jufitfies the ungodly. So the Lord comes, and finds a great deal of ungodlinefs in your Duty, and he imputes his righteoufnefs unto that Duty; and he junifies the Duty, which in your eye is an ungodly duty. This indeed is thewonderofall, that he fhould deal thus by us : For, did we ever hear of any garment, that would make the crooked firaight ? Ifa man have a croo, ked back ; comeand put velvet upon him, filk, fcarlet up- on him, it may make him handfomer, but it will not change his back, and make him limit. But when the Lord Chcift.comes,he findsall our fouls crook-back't,as it were, and he puts on his righteoufnefs, and this garmentmakes that that was crooked to become firaite ; it makes the very crook-back't Duty, tobecome a firait Duty. It may leave it's impreflion but it does not change the wax into it's own mettall. Ifthere be a ftamp fet upon filver, or gold, the renal remains as it was be- fore : But ifa flamp be fet uponbraffe, it -don't make it fil- ver; or ifit be fet upon Elver, it don't make it gold. I but when the lord jefus Chrift comes unto a Duty, and Pets his own ftamp, and his own righteoufnefs upon a Duty, .that which was braffe before ; full of failings, and much nnrighteoufnefs before, changes it into gold, into filver. He only bath the Philofophers alone (as I may fo fpeak) all that Chri ft touches turns into gold ; turns all our Du- ties intogold : and when be hash done fo, he prefents them unto,God the Father. This our great High-Prieli doth. And this is the Fourth thing. But how doth all this make for our Comfort, yir for our Grace? Surely, we cannot but fee already how it dothmake for our Comfort: It
