But upon this difovery offorgive_ neß treated of, which is made by faith ofAdherence unto God, a mati plainly fèes the nature ofit, and that it is fo excellent that it is to be defired for its owit fake. Indeed when a foul is brought under trouble for fin, it knows not well what it would have. It bath an uneafinefs , or difquietment that it would be freed from; a dread of fome evil condition that it would avoid. But now the foul can tell what it defires, what it aims at, as well as what it would be freed from. It would have an intereil in Eternal-Love, have the gracious kindnefs of the heart ofGod turned towards it felt; a feuf of the ever- lailingpurpofe of his Will ¡hed abroad in his heart; have an cfpecial intereli in the precious blood of the Son of God, whereby Attonement is made for him, and that all theft things be teilified unto his Confcience in a word of promife mixed with faith. Thcfe things he comes for, this wayalone he would be faved and no other; It fees fuch a Glory of Wifdom, Love, and Grace in f rgivemß, fuch an Exaltationof the Love of Chrifl in all his Oiiices, in all his undertaking, efpecially in his Death, Sacrifice, and bloodfhedding whereby he procured or made Reconciliation for us, that it exceedingly longs after the participation of them. All rhefe things in their feveral degrees, will this difcovery offòrgiveneß in God, without an evidence of an efpecial intc- rell therein produce. And chefe will affuredly maintain the fliritual life of the foul, and keep it up unto fuch an obedi- ence as (hall be accepted ofGod in Chriff. Darknefs, forrow, florins, they in whom it is may meet withal, but their eter- nal condition is fecurcd io the Covenant of God ; their fouls are bound up in the bundle of life.
