17o COUNSELLOR. cording to the Opinion of the Deis themfelves, can occupy all Space and know all Things. But (to ufe the Apoftle's Words), as in Chrift are hid all the Trea- fures of Wifdom andKnowledge ;* fo, therefore, in Chrift refide all the Glories of the GODHEAD. The Treafures, and ALL the Treafures of Wifdom andKnowledge, could not dwell in any Creature. To fpeak with Reverence, GOD muff undeify Himfelf, and transfer his very Being and Perfe&ions to another, before fuch a Propo- fition could be true. Yet Chrift hath all thefe Trea- fures ; is this very GOD ; and hath manifefted the Effe&s of his GODHEAD and Power, throughout the believing and fpiritual, as well as the natural and vifble World. He is Jehovah indeed : And He is the Lamb, who feedeth and leadeth his People unto living Fountains of Waters ; and who will, one Day, wipe away every Tear from their Eyes. Confidering all which Chrift hath done, and all which He hath promifed to do; we may juftly pronounce of him, with the Prophet, That it muff come forth from the LORD OF HOSTS, who is WONDERFUL in COUNSEL, and excellent in Working.t None, but GOD, could de,- vife fuch a Plan of Salvation : None, but GOD, could undertake and perform it. For the Comfort of his People, the Scripture hath revealed, that yefus Chrift, as GOD, is not only a Counfellor in the bleffed Trinity ; but alto, as GOD- Man, a Counfellor and an Advocate for them with the FATHER. All his Counfels, Declarations, and Intercef- fions, are, therefore, as certain, pofitive, and effe&ual, as the Power, Love, and Wifdomof his Godhead could make them. Thus he fpeaks by the Prophet ; I am GOD, and there is none like me, declaring the Endfrom the Beginning, and from antient Times the things that are not yet done, faying, My COUNSEL SHALL STAND, and I will do all my Pleafure.$ By this determinate Counfel * Col. ü. 3.. t Ifaiah xxviii. 29.
