Id! judgments of God againft intemperance, as SERM. well as other fins, and tells us, that * adul- VI. terers, fòrnicators and drunkards, no more than the idolaters and the unjuft, (hall not in- herit the kingdom of God; that if -r- we live after the flefh we (hall die ; and, for the fake bf fuch crimes, the wrath of God cometh on the children of II difobedience, or of unbelief. Thefe vices, therefore, are a diret rebellion againft the gofpel, anti will be punifhed as filch. They are the works of the Gentiles, or of the world that lieth in wickednef ; and when chriftians are guilty of them they in- volve themfelves in the fin and condemnation of unbelievers; for that when light is come into the world, they loved darknef rather than it, becaufe their deeds are evil. Let it never enter into our thoughts, that great profeflions of refpeI to him and zeal for his truth, will pleafe our Lord Jefus Chrift, or pretended faith in him, if we continue in carnal impurity, and live after the flefh. The fornicator is as obnoxious to the difplea- fure of God as the profane perfon ; and our Saviour himfelf exprefly tells us , he will at the Taft day utterly rejet the pretences of t Cor. vi. 9, to. t Rom. viii. 13. 11 Eph. v. 6. $ Mat. vii. 22.
