The PJalmf defcribes God's . care of commu- nities, and the -f- prophet particularly, his care of Ifrael, both which may be applied to in- dividuals of mankind ; I fay, his care in leading them through various difficulties from a low condition in their beginnings or in- fancy, to an eftablifhed and flourifhing fíate. Every one of us upon a review of our own lives may difcern that our fteps have been marvelloufly concluded beyond the reach of our own counfels by over- ruling providence, fo that by wifely obferving, we may under- fiand the loving -kindn f of the Lord in pre - venting evil, and doing us good far above our expedation. And efpecially every good man may with pleafure be convinced that provi- dence has favoured his efcape from tempta- tions which might have been moil dangerous to his integrity, and happily carried him on in the paths of virtue. But as to this Taft mentioned, which is the greateft of our con- cerns, God interpofes for our direction in an- other way, that is by the concurring in- fluence and operation of his fpirit.
