Brain it, even by the public authority of XIII. laws ; but what is the confequence ? why, --Y- - inftead of amendment, it increafes, even from the days of our fathers, to the great difhonour of religion, and augmenting the anger of the Lord. Now, if this be a juft reprefentation of our Rate ; and that it is true, is very certain j indeed it is defetive, for many more fins might be added to the fcore of our guilt ; but if it be fo, may it not be juftly faid that thefe lands have finned by trefpaffing grie- voufly againft God, and that there is reafon to apprehend that he will ftretch out his hand upon them, according to the threatning in my text, and according to the ufual courfe of his providence ? Let us never imagine that we are not under the obfervation of his eye, or that he is not difpleafed with ours, as well as with the iniquities of others. We have long perfifted in our difobedience ; and the evils mentioned, with many more, have been growing upon us.
