That a fonne only , not a daughter, is to be put eo death by this Law, and hee not a little one, or a child,who is not within the rule or compaffe of the coma>andernents; nor a man that is growne up , and is in his owue power. Moreover, that the father and mother mull bring this rebellious fonne firft to the court of three Fudges, and there com- e plaineof his difobedience; bringing with them two witneffes of his ftealth and gluttony: where- upon he is there beaten, as others are for the like crime; and this is that dnajiening in verf. 18. If he fall againe to ftealth and riot , hisfather and mother bring hint againe before the Magiftrates, with the witneffes,and he is condemned to death. But if before fentence is paffed on him, his father and mother doe relent in pit ie towards him,he is let goe. If hee flee away before fentence: is gone out agaiulfhim, and be afterward taken when he is in mans ftate (which they alfo judge by the haire on his face) hee is not put to death ; but if he fcape away after Cenrence of condemîtation,he is {toned to death whenfoever hee is taken. If his father be willing to bring him to the Magiflrate, and the [wither not; or the mother willing,&the father nut; he is not to be judged asa rebellions fonne. If either parent have loll their hand, or be lame ; or be dumbe,or blind, or deafe, the Tonne paffeth not under this condemnation; for it is faid, they muff lay hold on him, and bring him, and m ult fay, thin our frame, &c. he obeyeth not our voice, &c.
