ll.oolltng unto jJefu.s. Book lV. 481 Godhead. and Divine glory; and in refped ~f the rdl~aint~ of th~tfenfe an~ fweet– nefs, and feeling operations of the bearilical V1fion, durmg hts hum•harwn; m thefe refpetls Chrift was exalted in his humane nature, and had ail the glory from the ~eicy_ communicated to it which poffibly in any way it was capable of. There was a time; . when the Office which Chrifi undertook for us made him a man of farrows, bur when he had finifhed that difpenfation, then he was filled with unm1rchable glory, which b ·– fore his Sellton he enjoyed not; there was a time when the natural conkquep&~ and ftowingsof Chriit'• glory from rhar perfonal union was frayed and hindred, by fpecial difpenfation, for the working of our falvation ; but when that miraculous fiay was once removed, and the work of our' redemption fully finilhed, th•n he was exalted beyond the capacity; or comprehenlion of all rh~ An~els of He_a~en:. To which of'the An- Hcb. 1 • , 1 . gelsfaid he at any ttme, fit at m_r r.ght hand.? mthis refpect I[ Is.fa1d that G_od htghly ex_- l<lted him ; exalt<d he was m hts Refurredwn, Afcenfion, bur never fo lugh as ar Ius Sefllon ; in his Refurrection he ~>as exalted wirh [onah from the lower pans to the upper partS of the earth ; in his Afcenlion he was exalted with Elijah above the Clouds, above the Stars, above the Heavens; but in his Seffion he is exalted to the higheft place in Heaven, even to the right hand of God, Far a_bove all heavens, that he might fill all Eph; ~· 1 o. thin~s. · . 2~ Chtill: reigns, or adually adminifiers his glorious Kingdom; and this is the principal part of Chrift's fitting at God's right hand. So the Pfalmift, The Lord faid 11n- Pf.Lt 10 '•'· to my Lord, fit thou at my right hand, until I m~k..• thine enemies thy footjfool; the Lord Jha/1 fend the rod of thy jfrength our of Zion, rule thou in the midjf of thy enemies. The Apofile is yet more large, God [et him at hi< •'1'n ritht hand in the heavenly places, far Eph. r.to,tll above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that u named, 2t,>l· nor only in thu world, bur alfo in that which u tocome; and bath put all things under hi< feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the Church, which u lhu body, the fulnefs of him that filleth all in all. Some defcribe this Seffion at God's right hand tobe all one with his reigning in equal power and glory with the Father; bur rhe Son harh alwayes fo reigned, and the holy Ghofi bath alwayes fo reigned, who yet is nor faid in Scripture to fit atthc right hand of the Father; I believe therefore there is famething in this Seffion or Reign of Chrifi which doth difference it from rhar reigning Power and Glory of rhe Father, and of the Son as only God, and of the holy Gholl:; and if.we would know what that is; I would call it an actual adminiftration of his Kingdom, or an immediate executing of his Power and Glory over every creature as Mediator. There is a natural, and a difpenfatory Kingdom of Jefus Chrifi; for the firft, the Father reigns immediately by the Son, but by the holy Ghoft the Fatherdorh nor reign immediately, but through the Son ; the fame order is to be kept in their power, which is in t'he perfons; the Father reigns not by himfelf, but of himfelf, becaufe he is of none ; the Son reigneth by bimfelf, not of himfelf, becaufe he is begotten of the Father; rhe holy Ghofi reignerh by himfelf, but from the Father and the Son, from whom he dorh proceed. And as in the natural , fo in the difpenfatory Kingdom, the Father reigns immediately by rhc Son as Mediator; and hence it is that the Son as Mediator is only faid to fir at God's right hand, becaufe the righr of actual adminifuation , or immediate execution of the Sovereign power is appropriate and peculiar to the Son, as Mediator betwixt God and man. And this made Chrifi to fay'. The Father judgerh n• man, but bath committed all judgment unto the Son, as Job, f 1,~ Mediator. You may object , Chrift was Mediator immediately after his Incarnation, b~t he did nor actually adminifier his Kingdom then. I anfwer, ir i• true 1 Chrift for a ume did by a voluntary difpenfation empty himfelf, and laid alide the right of aC!ual adminiftration of his Kingdom; but immediately after his Afcenfion, the Father by voluntary difpenfation religned it ro the Son again; Come now, faith the· Father, and tak! thou power over every crtature, till the time that all things Jhall be fubd'!rd under thee.. This right the one relinqui/hed in the rime of that humiliation_ of h1mfelf; and thts right the orher conferred ar the time of rlle exaltation of his Son. - ~ECT.
