Confider the birth of Chrift, tl1is man-God, God-man who in his divine generation was the Son of God, in his humane generation was borne in a ftable, for the f.wing of the children of .. men who were as the oxe and mule having no undedlanding. ]t were a fruitful meditation to confider over and over that fweet refemblance of Chrifr being a Vir1e; me-thinks I heare the voyce of my b!!loved, rife up my love-·--the fit· tree putteth forth her Clot.:. 10,13 , greeneJigges, and the vine with the tendergrapes gives a good(mell; · arife my lave, my faire one and come •nvaJ'; if Chrifr knockes at the dore, who will not awake, and arife ? if Chrift comes in view, who will not look_unto {efus? if Chri!l: the Vine calls us to come fee the Vine with the tender grape, who will not talle the goodnelfe, fmell the fweetneffe? and after a little ta!l:eof that goodnelfe, and fweetneffe that is in him,, who would not lorig after more, till we come from the fir ft. fruits to the !aft-fruits of th.:! fpirit, even to thofe vifio~s ~nd ~ruitions of [hri!l: in glory?
