33'4 Book IV. Chap.2.Sett. 5 him was altogether without !in, and by imputation of it, we are in proportion freed from fin ; Chrift had not the leaft fpot of Original fin ; and ifwe are Chrifts, then is this !in in fome mea- . iurc abolifhed and taken out of our hearts. But howfoever the filth of this !in may remaine in part, yet the guilt is removed: in thts refpect the purity of Chrills humane nature is no Jelfe reckoned to us for the curing ofour defiled nature, then the fufferings of Chrifr are reckoned to us, for the remiffion ofour aCtual fins . 0 my foul, look to this end of Chrift as God in the flefh . ifthou confider him as made flefh and blood, and laid in a ma~ger, think with all, that his meaning was to condemn fin in our flefh; there flowes from the holineffe of Chrifts nature fuch' a power, as countermands the power ofou: Original fin, and acquits and difcharges from the condemnatiOn ofthe fame fin : not only the death, and life, but alfo the conception and birth of Chrift hath its influence into our juilification. Oh the fweet that a livdy faith may draw from this head ! 4· The encouragements to bring on fouls to beleeve on Chriil incarnate, we may draw -- . 1. From the excellency of this object. C:hrifis incar.nn ion is more general then Chrifis paffion, or Chnft. refi.mcchon, and (as fome would have it) includes all; Chrifts incaru:t::i.on holds ft'!'Lh in fome fort C hrifr in his fulnelle, and fo it is th r full and compleat f:1bject ofour faith; or if it be only more wmp~eLe;;fi ve, wrp:'en it tequiresmore comprehenfive acts of fait h, and byconfeq ur:n(e we have more enjoyments of Cbrifi r.his way, then any other way; Come poore foul, l feele, Ifeele thy eyes are running to and /·
