SEcT . r. of the fecond yeJre of ~hrifls miniftry, an.d ofhi:s acts i" general for that yeare. · Ow was it that the office of the Baptift was expired ; and Chrift beginning his Prophetical office, he appears like the Sun in fucceffion of the morning ftar; he takes at '/ ohn, and preacheth the fumme of the Gofpel, faith and repen- ~.rt;~;;;_ ~li!·~ tance: repent ye, and beleeve the qoJPel, Mark. · I. 1.5 Now, what thisGofpel was, the fumme and feries of all his following Sermons exprdfed and declared : it is fully contained in the new covenant, of whi~h we have fpoken, for what is the Gofpel but a covenant ofgrace, wherein all the imperfections of our works are made up by the perfection and grace of Jefus Chrifr ? the Gofpel is not a covenant of works ( i.) it is not an agreement upon the ftock of innocence, requiring ftriet and exaCt obedience without any allowance of repentance; no, no, be holy, faith the Gofpel, and where that failes, repent, and beleeve. By this time the work in his hand was grown high and pregnant, and Jefusfaw it convenient to choofe more difciples ; with this family lie goes up and down the whole Galilee, preaching the Gofpel of the Kingdome, healing all manner of difeafes, curing demoniacks, cleanfing lepers, giving frrength to paraliticks, and to lame people. · / It is not my purpofe to enlarge on all the Sermons, miracles, conferences, or colloquies of Chrift with men ; I am not for large volumes, and I fuppofe with '/ohn , that if all .the aets ofChri£1: fhould be written with commentaries on them, that even the world it fe lfe could mt contltine the book! that fhould be writt en.
