Chap.5 .Seas 2 • Forencouragements to bring on fouls thus co beleeve on chrift , confider.--- I. The fulne!fe of this objed:; Chrifts life is full, it is very comprehenfive, it containes holineffe, and happine!fe, fancbfication and juU:ification; if Chrifts garments were healing, how much more fcJ maine and effential a part of Chrift, even the halfe ofChrift as it were; for fo is Chriils life? it is vehemently to be fufped:ed, that the true reafon why fo much is faid of hi~ death, and fo little in comparifon of his life, it is either becaufe weunderftand not the fulne!fe of his life, or becaufe weare carnal , and felfiili, affecting freedome from hell, more chan holine!fe on earth fome benefit by Chrift more than conformity to Chrift. 0 co~e ! fee the fulneffe of Chrills life ! in reference to our fanctification, was it not a moll exact model of perfection ? a molt curious exemplification of Gods whole Word? an expreife Idea, Image, reprefentation of the whole minde ofGod ? a fu ll pn:lident for all others to walke by, to work by, to live by ? and in reference to jull:ification, is not Chrifts life the ob ject offa it l:J and jufrifying ? nay is not Chrifl:s life the object of jufl:ifying faith, as well as Chrilts death, refurrection, afcenfion, feffion , interfeffion? the a!fertors ofChrills active and paffil'e obedience for us, can tell us of two things in the law imend(!d,one principal , vi.t:.. obedience : and another fecondary, viz:-. malediction, fuppoli tion of difobedience; fo that fin being once committed there mull be a double act to juftification, the fuffering of the curfe, and the fulfilling of righteoufneffe anew; the one is fatisfaction for the in jury we have done unto God as our judge; and the other is a performance ofa fer vice which we owe unto God as our Maker. 0 then how large, and full, and comprehenfive is this life of Chrift ? 41.9 / 2. Confider the excellency, the glory of this object : Chrifts life isglorious; and hence it is that the righteoufne!fe of Chrifr is the moll glorious garment that ever the Saints of G0d did wea~e. Jt is ~ar/erats' faying, t~at th~ Church which puts on Marlor4t. Chrift and hu nghteoufneffe u more . tlluftmm th;m the ayrt u by Rev. 12, r. v: the Sun. 'fohn thus fe ts her out in his vifion, and there appeared a great wonder in heaven, a woman clot~thed with the Sun, and the moone under her feet. I take this to be a lofcy poetical defcripti- .onofChrifts imputed righteoufnelfe; imagine a garment were . Sff 2 -cut
