8o6 Book. IV Part+ L1okJngunto 1tfas. Chap. 2 .Sett.9 1 Cor.6. u. ·within? what? do we minde the thi~gs of the Spiri-t? do we. finde things heavenly and fpiritually to be fweet, and favour¥, and heft pleaung to us? is the Sabbath our deltghc? do we long for i.t before it come ? do we rejoyce in it when it is come ? do we confecrate it as glorious to the Lord? do we come to the exercifes of religion whether publike or private with much delight" and with cheerfulnelfe, as to a feaft ? what is this but the life of God? butifthefe things !;,e hadh and unpleafant, if the Sabbath be a burthen, ifholy exercifes be irkfome and tedious, ifin attending on the Word we are heavy and drouzy, and wefindeno reliih, no fweet, no favour in the oyntments of Chrift, no goings out of the foul with an activity to the things propounded, 0 then deceive not our felves, we have no good evidence ofour vivification. . 3. It is a life of a new ftate; before vivification we are in an unjuftified eftate; f10nes are unpardoned, we are unreconciled; Andfuch were fome vf you ( faid the A poftle to his Corinthi, rms )but now ye are wafhed, now ye are fanCI.jjied, flOW JC are juftified in the Name of the Lord 'Je(m Chrift, and 6y the Spirit of ct~r God. This juftification denotes a ftate, and is univerfal and unalterable. I know Arminians deny fuch a £l:ate, for as by their doctrine no man can be abfolutcly elected till oe dye, fo neither.cbfolute1y juftified; for (fay they) he may fall into fuch fins, as that though formerly juftified, yet now he may be condemned; yea,ro day he may be juftified, and to morrow thrown out of thar cftate. But againft this we hold, that thofe that ar""once ju£l:ified, arc never againe caft out ofGods fnour. As Chrift onlie d~ed, but rofe againe never to dye more, death hath no more power over him; fo a juftified man once allyed to God through Jefus Chrift doth from that time forward as neceffarily live, as Chrift himfelfe by whom he doth live; there is an .immortal and indilloluble union betwixt Chri£l: the head, and every beleever; our juil:tfication depends not on our own ftrength, but it is built on Chrift himfelfe, who is the fame ydl:er-day, and to day, and for ever; :~ na hence it is that a juflified m1n can no more ceafe to live in this £l:ate of jufrification, than Chrift can cnfe to live in heaven. ·~ 4· It is a life of new relations ; thi·s immediately follows our ftate : if once we are juftifred, then we are related to God, a-nd · · · · ·· · · Chrift,
