But for feare of miftakes, in this cafe obferve we thefe rules. 1. That although the Spirit may immediately teftifie without any expreffe or formal application ofaword,yet he never tefiifies but according to theWord. If a man that never felt lin a burthen, that throws away all duties of Religion, that never prayes. reades,' heares, or meditates, fhall fay, that he is filled with joy, peace, and the affurance of Gods Word, it is certaine the holy Spirit is not the Authour of this, becaufe the promifc of peace belongs to none of this ftampe; fee Mlilt,u.z8.Ifa. 57.I5.Ma/. 5·3,4,),6,7,8. . 2.
