Eternal, or ifyou will, a Glory begun in hi1 Soul, which is Eternal; (For fo ~the Image ofChrift wrought in us in this life, is ftilcd Glory, 2 Cor. 3· 11lt. Adam's Grace was not a degree ofGlory, but according to the befi account that bath been given ofit, by thofe that hold, he fhculd havt befll ta– km up into Glory i111he tnd; As to that prefent Grace, that he had before he fell, they reckon him but as one ftanding for his Degree, that is not yet a Gra– duate, or as a Mdfonary in order to his Reward. 2. The Sccondthingimportedhereby is, that when a Man is Called, he is put into an Eternal right ot"Giory, not into a prefent right to Glory on!y, but a perpetual right (at prefent) or a right that reaches to Eternity; and this the Scriptures ftrongly and plainly declare, whilft they exprefs it to be our ha– ving a Title to it, as to any Inheritance, and that upon Callin~, or whilfi they make a Conveyance, not a Covenant only, but a Tellament tiy Will, up– on the death ofthe Teftator, which lhall, nor never will be forfeited, ifit be but nMans Tel\ament, oo man Difanulleth it, r$c. Now upon our Calling (which is all one with our New-birch) this Glory is conveyed and fctled upon us, as an Inheritance, and it being Eternal, as an E· terna! Inheritance. You know that the Tenor of Jnheritonces is for Ever, as we fay to you, and your Heirs for ever, and this Efiablilhment is at our New– birth, or Ca1Ji11g, Tit. 3· 'j ,7. There is this difference between an Inheritance conveyed, and a Reward for Works done, whichisbeftowedas a Reward. That an Inheritance goes by Birth, and not by Works, and yet is for ever, becaufc an Inheritance. Even thofe that hold, that ifhe had continued in Grace, he tllould at !aft have gone to Heaven, (which I confefs I do not,) yet they do feto"Ut his Pretentions unto Glory but in this manner, That after fome fct time by God's appointment (aThoufimd Tears fuppcfe) as many of them fay, be fhould have been taken up into Glory, ifhe had continued in that Holinefs he w~smade in; Yet this withal they do proreffedly declare, That he fhould not have been du– ring that time, an :Heir ofth,Jt Glory, no not till the !aft moment ofthat fet time: But thcState'helhould have been in, was but ofan Hireling, to whom the Reward was due by debt for Working, during which time, he lhould ha~e been an Expectant for Heaven, but upon his good behaviour, but not an He~r unul
