Prefent and fen- fible things ftrongly affect the Carnal Faculties, and excite the Natural Incli- nations that were dormant in the ab- fence of alluring Obieas ; but when aawaken'd, they diftraa and fcatter the Mind, from a jufl comparing of things prefent and things future; and the Will appl'yes the Thoughts to what is delight- ful to the carnal part, and the applica- tion determines the choice. The inter- pofition of Earthly things, eclipfe the Light of Faith, and weakens the refle- ¿ions of that Light upon the Mind A ftrong Temptation defaces the impref fon of things future, though infinitely great ; and confegtzently the Paffions prevail, and Faith is vanquifh'd.
