The Spirit of Adoption is the Spirit of Regeneration : 'Tie from his teftimony with our Spirits, that we have the com- fortable of urance , that we are the Chil- dren of God. The Spirit firft works be- fore he witnetfes , and his teftimony is always in conformity to the Rule of the Word, wherein the infallible Charaaers of the Children of God are laid down. The teftimony is argumentative and de- clarative from thofe divine Difpofitions that conftitute the Children of God. God is terrible to the Confcience, and diftaftful to the Affe&iions of the unholy. Thebright and ferene face of the Hea- yens is pleafant to the fight, but a black Cloud charg'd with Thunder-bolts, and that threatens Storms, is look'd on with fear. The Countenance of God is a re- freíhing Light to his obedient Children, but is a tormenting Fire to the unfancfi- fied. They are averfe from the fociety of theSaints in the Ordinances, becaufe God is peculiarly prefent with them.
