To be called a Child of God, is a title of the higheR Honour ; and what a vile degeneracy is it, what a Rain and infamy is it, for fuch to mind earthly things, to fët their Affections on perifhing Vanities, that defile and debate them ? 'Tis a title of the moll perfect Liberty ; If the .Son make you free, you are free indeed. What a difparagement is it to Believers to be fattened by the Chains and Charms of their Lufts, in a molt ignominious flavifh bondage ? 'Tis a title of Confecration ; Holinefs to the Lord is ingraven in their foreheads, the vifible proféffion of Chriftians : Now can they conform themfelves according to the cuftom of this World, which lys zr wickednef, milers all Filial Affeaions to God be dead, or very languifhing in their Breafts ? A facred Ambition, an active Zeal to adorn the Gofpel, to live becoming the dignity and purity of our Divine Relation, is the great Duty in- cumbent on us. To conclude this part, there may be fincere Grace in a Perfon, but through neglect of improving it to degrees of eminence, a Child of Light may walk in Darknef, and be deprived of the Senfe of God's prefent Love, and the joyful Hope of future Happiriefs : He may fear that in every Affliction here, there is Anger
