There is a high relifh in Viaory of any kind, but efpecially over our moll dangerous Enemies ; it .replenifhes with cordial Contentment ; what Joy arifes from fubduing unruly Pailions : Suppofè Anger has often foil'd me, and like an unmanaged and unbridled Horfe , has hurried me into dangers:; if by Divine Grace, by Circumfpeaion and Care, by Refolution and Striving, I finally over- come it, and all its former Victories, what a fpring of Joy ruffles into the Soul ? If the Graces of the Spirit are more radiant and vigorous in their exer- cife, the Reward is fuck a clear ferenity of Mind, as is the refleaion of Paradife, a Heaven upon Earth. Profperity in a Calling makes Men diligent and delight- ful in it. But when the praaife of Re- ligion is conftrain'd and tedious , God receives no Honour, and Man receives no Praife, nor Joy, as the Reward of it. 4.
