Spiritual Perfecction. Angels are the eldeff off -fpring of God's Power, Glorious, Heavenly and Immor- tal Spirits. The Title of Angels figni- fies their Office ; their Nature we do not fully know. We can tell what they are not, not Flefb nor Blood ; but negatives do not afford Knowledge. 'Tis not Knowledge to declare what things are not, but what they are. Their excellen- cy is difcovered in Scripture, in that the highefF degree of our Perfeaion is ex- prefs'd by likenefs to the Angels. The Perfeaion of Beauty in Stephen is fet forth, They faw his Face, íu the Face of ACts 6. is an Angel. Excellent Wifdom in David; My Lord the !Ong is wife ti*.s an Angel of 2 Sam. 4,209 God. PerfeE. Eloquence ; Tho' fieak i Cor. 13. z. with the Tongues of Men and Angels. And the Apoflle, in affet'ting the infinite dig- nity of the Mediator, proves it by this Argument that he is above the Angels; To which of the Angels did he fay, thou art my Son ? that is, in a high and pecu- liar manner : Now if they had not been in the highef} order of Creatures , the Argument had not been conclufive ; yet they are infinite defcents below God. The Heavens are not clean in his fight , the Stars are not pure before him.
