444 Spiritual PerfeElion. 2. The Duty of Watchfulnefs re- fpeas the doing good in its feafon, and with the Circumftances proper to it. To him that orders his Converfation a- right, I will thew the Salvation of God. Order in an Army contributes to Vi&o- ry more than Numbers. The accepta- ble Performance of a Duty, muff de- pend upon its feafon. The Beauty of it is impair'd, when doneout of its pro- per time. I will inífance in one Duty very influential unto a Holy Life. We are commanded to Watch unto Prayer, that is, to preferve a Holy Frame of Spirit fuitable to this Duty : and to re- deem time from the Vanity and Bufinefs of the World for Prayer. This Duty is as necelfary for the Spiritual Life, as breathing for the Natural : and 'tis a part of Wifdom fo to order our Affairs that we may have chofen Hours for Communion with God. And we are to watch in Prayer againft difra&ion and indevotion. We are commanded to dram mar to God with reverence andgodlyfear ; for our God is a Confuming Fire, to thofe' who difparage his Majeffy by Coldnefs and Carelefnefs in his Service.
