( 28 ) many men pra&ife not their ill opinions. Ifyou wouldhear men fpeak their hearts, and that which confcience dare own, hear them in Confeffions and Prayers to God. Prayers are more generally Orthodox then Sermons, and Sermons adpopulism then adclerurn, and both then Difputations, and Controverfal writings , among men that are warping the Antinomian way. Argument 14. Ifwe are juffified, Abfolved, or pardoned, and haveRight to heaven, from eternity, or from the time of Chrifts undertaking or fuffering, or before our Converfion, thennoJew, Turk, or prophaneft man, may lawfully either I. Believe. 2. Or confefs himfelf miferable, as being not abfolved, juftified or par- doned or as having no Right to heaven. 3. Nor may they be humbled for any fuch mifery ( except it be thofe that have blaf- phemed the Holy-Gholt, if any fuch know their fin : ) But the Confequent is purely Antinomian : therefore fo is the Antece- dent. For the Confequence it is moll clear, feeing no man may be- lieve or confefs that which hecannot knowwhether it be true or falfe : But no whore-monger, perfecutor, murderer , can ( ac- cording to their Doftrine) tell whether it be true orfalfe, that he is not abfolved, pardoned, and bathRight to heaven : For they fay all the Redeemed are abfolved, and have fuch Right : and all and only the Elea are Redeemed : and what wicked man can know that he is not Elea ? And therefore it muff needs follow that they cannot be humbled for what they cannot know.' doubt not but the Antinomians will be ready enough to own all this;but for experienced humble converts I neednot perfwade them of the evil of it : Nor will I bellow more words againft it nowfee- ing ad populism, fo many of our Divines have fpoken to it fo abundantly. See Shephards Sincere believer , Hookers Souls Pre- paration, addVocation, &c. Argument 15. If we are pardoned, abfolved or have Right to heaven from eternity (by the Decree) or from the timeof (_hrifts death, then may no man wickedor Godly pray for any fuch par- don of fin, abfolution, or Right to heaven. But the Confequent is Antinomian : therefore fo is the Antecedent. Though fuch a man might pray for Juftification as terminated in confcience, or the knowledge or fenfeof Abfolution , and for Poffeffion ofheaven, and the yus in re,yet I hope it will not eafily 0 o go
