If 295) imprefflons are made on thefoul infanelifcation,and individuatedby individual objets, andfpecifiedby fpecial objects ; andfo it is not as an Infiromental efficient caufe that Faith ,juilifleth ( for fuch it is not ) norJetformally froin its natural all of Receptionof fuch an But Right to Chrift and,Life being a Moral effea,and convey- ed by a Moral caufe and why, that is by a Law ofGrace,or con- ditional Promife or gift ; therefore the formal reafon of Faiths Intereft in ourjuftiEcationis,as it is the Condition ofthat Promife by us performed t and its Effence, or Phyfical aft, (the Accept- ance of Chrift and life) commonly called its inftrumentality , though it be the Reafonwhy it was chofen and preferred to this office ofbeing the Conditionof the Promife,yet is it but its apti- tude to the office,andfo the remote,andas it were,material reafon of its Intereft in our Juftification, and not the formal Reafon. And therefore fo far as it is a Conditionofpardon or jultificati- on, it mull needs be the pardoning or juftifying at : And there- fore it being the undivided and undiftinguifhed acceptance of Chrift as Chrift; that is, as Lord-Redeemer and Saviour, which is by Scripture made the Condition ofour Right to Chrift and his benefits,it follows,that we are juftified by receiving himfor Lord, as well as for juilifier by fatisfaaion and that it is befides and againft Scripture to fay, that Faith juftifieth as an Inftrument, or as it hath the Phyfical refpea ofan as to fuch an objea ; that is, as it apprehendeth Chrifts righteoufnefs, and refteth thereon, or as it is Faith in Chrift as a Juftifier. 3. As that Faith which is the Conditionof our firft Right to " a 'late ofJuftification, is the acceptingof Chrift as Chrift, and fo as King, and fo contains the entering our felves by Confent into the Relationof fubjeas hereafter toobey, and a difpofition and refolution to obey ; fo in thole that furvive, fincere. obedience, (which is the performance of this Covenant ) is the Condition, Of our not lofing our state ofJuftification, or of continuing it. 2.
