( 297 ) formed the Condit ionof that grant or Nornife , which giveth Right ? Here that Faith and Repentance which firft are but Conditions ofour Juftificationby Chrift, do next become the ve- ry matter of that righteoufnefs whereby we are Juftified, againft the particular accufation of being Infidels, Impenitent , or Re- bels, or Hypocrites, and fuch as never performing the Condition have no Right in Chrift. So that it is only in fubordination to Chrift and his righteoufrrefs , that we are to be juttified by per- fonal Righteoufnefs : As it is in fubordination to him , that we are now fail to be conftituted in tantttm perfonally ( or Inhe- rently righteous) by our being fincere Believers, penitent and obe- dient. And thus I have truly given the very fumme ofmy judgement in this matter, which is accepted againft by fome Brethren ; In all which, I. I make neither-Faith, nor any ad ofman,to be the leaft caufes of our justified [late, or of continuing it , or of our final Abfolution. z. Nor do I take works of Obedience to Chrift to be fo much as prefent inour firft Juilification, but in order ofna- ture to follow it. Themain thing that I find offend, are thefe two. I. That I fay, The Accepting thrift as King, and Teacher, is part of that Faith which is the Conditionof Juffification, and fo juftifying as well as the taking his righteoufnefs. 2. That I fay,Obedience to God Redeemer, is a fecondary part of the Conditionof the continu- ance, or not lofing of our justified Rate, and of our final Jufti- fication at judgement. It is therefore thefe two that I fluff efpe- cially endeavour to prove that I am not fingular in. And left you ihould imagine that I wrongany Authors by forcing their words, or leavingout any thing. I. I will fuppofe you to have the books at hand to perufe the whole context, which I cannot have time to write, or fuppofe concern me not. z. I will not undertake to reconcile all other paffages in any book with what I cite, but if I force their words, I am contented to bear the blame. 3. I will annex the conclufion which I gather from ma- ny of them, left you fay I cite each one as approving my whole caufe. 4. But all (hall driveat the proofs of this Truth, that Igive no more to werks, then the moil eminent Reformed Divines erdinari- ly do, thotsgbperhaps Igive leis to Faithand Man. Qq SECT.
