(337), N thefe words is the fumofmolt that I am blamed for. Here I is the twofold righteoufnefs oppofite to a twofold accufation, that is, ofnon-performance ofthetonditions ofeach Covenant : one accufation true, which Chrifts fatisfa&ion only can juftifie us againft as the matter, and faith is but the condition of that jai- fication : the other is a falfe accufation, viz. that we are unbe- lievers, fromwhich faith mutt Juflifie us as the verymatter ofour righteoufnefs, and works as proofs. Towhich maybe added, that Repentance and Obedience being fecondary parts of the condition of Salvation, on the fame ground as we may need a Juitificationagainft the charge offinal unbelief,we may alfo need one againft the charge of final impenitency and difobedience and therefore by thefe materially mutt be joftified againft that charge. We fee here alfo that the Judgement is not appointed to enquire whether Chrift have fatisfied for us, but whether we have performed the condition of the New Covenant : and therefore he faith this is the one thing then to be proved : And that the New Covenantwill be the Law by which we muft be herein Judg- ed. I defire the Reader to perufe all the reft of that excellent difputation ; 1 will tranfcribe but a few lines more to (hew that thecontinuance of Ju ftification is in the firft gift of it intimated to be on condition we afterward liveholily.
