Wemutt diflinguilh between that which is both in ourfelves and of ourfelves originally,and that which is in ourfelves, but not of our Jlves , but of God by Chrìfl : Or only of our felves in fubordination toChrifl. The former fort we have finaïl reafon to glory in, for it is our fin and fhame. But the later we may glory in; for the glory redoundech to theauthor. 3. We mutt diftinguifh between Looking at fomething in our felves with a mifl.aking eye, as judging it Meritorious, or to be more our own then it is. And looking at it with a right judge- ment , and faying of it no more then what is true. In the later fenfe we may look at it and glory in it , but not in the fora' mer. 4. And we mutt diftinguifhbetwixt a Glorying that is termi- nated ultimately in our felves, or is accompanyed with any undue afcribing to our felves. This is no doubt unlawful : And a Glo- rying which tendech to God and is terminated in him, and giveth no honour to anycreature but what Godgiveth them , and what is ina due appointedorder to Godshonour. And this Glorying is a duty, and by all ühriftians to be carefully performed. If any that perufe aide lines be tainted with thisweak miflake, let them confider, betides what is faid before. r. Is it juft orpious that Chrift fhould lofe the honour of his mercies, meerly becaufehe bath bellowed them onus ? Doth chat make them no mercies : Or rather make them the greater Ar- cies ? Shall his grace be villified becaufe he makes th foul the fubjett of it ? Why then it teems you would have thanked him more to have kept his mercy to himfelf. z. Is Chilli ever the letsChrill, becaufe he dwels in the hearts of Believers ? Eph. 3. 17. And will you pretend to honour Chrill without you,and deny him his honour within you , even becaufe he is within you ?
