By the CrofsofChriji. SECT. XXVII. ICome now to the third and fall branchof the Obfervati- tion ; viz. that To Glory in any thing fave the Crop of Chriff andour Crucifixion thereby , ùa thing that the foul of a Chriftian fhould abhor. Here I fhall thew you what it is that is not excluded from our glorying in theft words : And then what it is that is ex- eluded ; and conclude with fomeApplication. I. It is noneof theApofiles meaning in thefe words , that we may not Glory in God the Father. For his love to the world was the caufe of their Redemption. And his pleafure andglory is the end of Redemption ; and was intended by Chrift, and mull be intended by us.. As NineMartyr faith , he would not have believed in Chrift himfelf, if he had led them to any but the true God. SoI may fay Chrift hadnot done the work of Chrift , if he had intended any Endbut God, and hadnot brought up all toGod. z. When it is laid., that we mull Gloryonly in the Crofs of Chrift, the meaningis not that wemull not alto Glory in his Incarnation, and holy Life, andRefurreclion, and Interceffi- on, andevery part of hisMediatorthip : For theCrofs is not here put as Contradiflin t from thefe ; but all thefe are im- plyed in his Crofs ; as having their (hare as well as it , in the workof our falvation. 3. Nor is it the meaning of the Apoflle, to forbidus to Glory in the promifethatChrifl bath made us, and in the glad tidingsof the Gofpel : For this brings the bieffed news toour ears, this is the joyful found the voiceof Love ; theCharter of our inheritance ; and therefore fweet to all the fops of Life. 4. Nor is it any of the Apoftles fenfe , that we may not Glory in the Spirit of Chrift, as magnifying him for th® workof illumination and Sanctification. As it wasan high I i z fin 243
