17z Keep in the order of Learning. DIRECT. XXX. Keep in the rank of a humble Drfciple or lear- ner in the Church of Chrif, tillyou arefit andcalled to beparfelfa Teacher. Cf-lrift owneth no Difciples which are not in one of thefe two ranks; either Teacher; by office upon a lawful call, or Learners who fub- mit to be taught by others. When his Miniíkrs have made menhis Difciples, they mutt afterward Teach them to obferve all things oh, tfoever he hatte commanded them. Matth. z8. 191 20. And Learner muff hear and read and difcourfe in a Icarning way, by humb'e asking the refolation ofhis doubts, acknowledging theweakness of his own underffanding , and the fuperiority of hi$ Teachers. This is the common ruineof raw pro- fefiotars, that theyprefently grow proudof a poor ignorant head , as if it were fall of knowledge and fpirituality and while they continue Hea- rers, they continue not Difciples or Learners, hut come with a proud and carping humour, to quarrel with their Teachers as poor ignorant the , in comparifon of them ; And therefore choofe them a he :,pof Teachers according to them' 'own opinions : And all this while they have fuel lift to be fouie body and to vent their feeming wifdome, that they can hardly flay from being Teachers themfelves, till they have any thing like a lawful call. _ Wheeasifthey would have kept in the rank of humble Learners till they had grown
