[ 176] Í+. And the Church of England is as Ioudly accufed ofSchifm and Herefie by the Papifts : and too much by the Greeks, if the Patriarch y'eremy fpake their Sence. Are they therefore Schiff maticks indeed ? None forwarder to accule than the Ignorant or Guilty ! Judge by what I have faid of our Judgment in my Searchfor the Schifmatick We abhor Schifm, and have laboured to have healed the Wounds of the Church with all our power thefe 22 years and more; Andwhobe they that have refitted it, and hate the only healing Balfam ? 2. It is not true that we muff have Communion with no Church that is guilty ofSchifm, tho' we mutt not be guilty of Schifm it felf. If the schifm be Apoftafy that cuts them off from Chrift and the Church univerfal , we muft not have Chriftian commu- nion with fuch, that are no Chriftians.. But if they are only guilty of Schifm from force particular Church, and ofSchifm in the Univerfal Church, and not from it , wounding and not dif membring, we muft not renounce communion with fuch, fave only as with any other fcandalous Sins , fo far as impenitence pròvethungodlinefs. TheChurch ofCorinth was much guilty of Schifm, and fo was that of Galatia; and yet none were therefore to renounc their Communion. Was not Peter guilty of force Schifm ? Cat 2. I doubt there are few Churches on Earth that are not herein guilty, either in Eaft , South, Weft or North. Andmuft we renounce communion with themall? That is,to com- mit tenfold greater schifm for fear ofSchifm. 3. Read impartially my Search for the Schifmatick,, and if the Prelates thus mentioned be not far more guilty of Schifra, than we are,I defpair of ever underftanding what Schifm is.This would be the ftrongeft Argument for feparation from them : and is fo ufed bymany Separatifts. Chap. XLVII. Point IV. Of obliging the Laity to live without any more eneftt of Difctpline than is in the Pub- lickChurches. .M. IV. trHe next part of Lay-Conformity is this : Chrift, who inflituted Miniftry,Word and Sacraments, bath alto inftituted a certain determinate Difcipline in his Church , of great ufe to the Church, and to particular Souls : And this is con- hderable,
