He bath indeed given us the Lords Prayer, which is our Rule for matter, and Method , and a lawful! form for words : but he bath not tyed us to this only, nor told us what wordswe fhall ufe betidesthis:whether we fhall ufe words long before premeditated (call'd a form) or only fuch as are immediately or neer before our fpeaking premeditated, or in fpeaking, adapted to the matter in hand ? whether our premeditated prayers fhall be expreffed in our own words, or fuchas are prefcribed us by others? whether fuch forms (hall be expreffed in Scripturewords, or not ? whether we thrall fing the Pfalms ofDavid,or compofeany Evangelical Hymnsour felves? whether many Churches than ufe one and the fame form of words, or various ? whether our Sermons, and Catechifms, and Confeffions of faith, (hall be a fludied or prefcribed form of words, or thematter and methodonly f}udied ? &c.
