Was it before neceffary to have an explicite beliefin the Holy GboJO as the thirdperfon in the bleffed Trinity, and as the third principle of the divine operations, and were the faithful then in Covenant with bins ? Diflinguifh between the Perfon and the Name: No Name is neceffary to falvation ; elfe none could be favedbut men of one language: To believe in the Holy Ghaff under that Name, was not neceffary to falvation (nor yet is) for he that fpeaketh and heareth of him in Greek, or Latine, or Sclavonian, &c. may be faved, though he never learnt the Englifh tongue : But to believe in theEncrgetical, or opera- tive, or communicative Love of God, was alwaies neceffary to falvation, conCidered in the thing, and not only in the Name : As it was to believe in. his Power andhis Wifdom : And to be- lieve which is the fuff, and which thefrond, andwhich the third, is notyet ofabfolute steelity to falvation ; while they are coequal and coeffcntial; and it was neceffary to the Jews to believe, that this Love of god did operate, and was com- municated to the faithful, not upon the terms of innocency, ac. cording to the Grit Covenant ; but to (inners that deferved death, and upon terms of mercy, through the Covenant of Grace,
