His perf:A Obedience to the Law; yea to that Law ofiVfe- diation altopeculiar to hirnfclf (which he pLrformed neither as Pricfl, or Prophet, or King, but as a fubjed) was the me- ritorious cafe of that Covenant and Grace which juflifieth us, and fo ofour Juflifcation. And that which is the meritorious eaufe here, is alto ufually called the material, as it is that matter or thingwhich meritetb our Juflification; and fo is called Our Rigbteoufnefs it felt. As he was a facrifice for fin., he anfwered the ends of the Law which we violated, and which condemned us, as well as if we had been all punifhed according to the /info of the Law : And therefore did thereby fatisfie the Law- giver and thereby altomerited our pardon and Jullification, fo that his ©i'edience as fuch, andhis Sacrifice (or whole hu- miliation) asfarisfal7ory by anfwering the ends -of the Law, are conjunélly the meritorious coifs of our Juflificarion. His New Covenant (which in Baptifm,is made mutualby our exprefiid content) is ageneralgift matt ofoblivion, orpardon, given freely toall mankind, on condition they will believe and confent to ir, or accept it; fo that it is Gods pardoning and adopting inftrunaent And all are pardoned by it condi- tionally; and every penitent Believer aflually and really. And this Covenant or Gift is the cilia of the foretaid merit of Chrifl, both founded and fealed by his blood. As he merited this asa mediating fubjeLi and facrifice,fo as our High Prieft he offered this facrificeofhimfelf to God. And as our King, he being the Law- giver to the Church, did make this Covenant as his Law of grace, defcribing the terms of-life and death : And being the Judge of the world, doth by his fentrnce juflific and condemn men, as believers or unbelievers; according to this Covenant : And alto executeth his fentence accordingly (partly in this life, but fully in the life to come.) As our Teacher, and the Prophet, or Angel ofthe Covenant, ke doth declare it as the Fathers will, and promulgare and proclaim
