That tome Pro-mifes of God of the latt mentioned gifts, have no condition The promifes of giving a" Saviour to the world ; and the promife ofgiving and continuing the Goipel in the world ; and of converting many by it in the world, and of making them Believers, and giving them new hearts, and bringing them to``falvation, &c. have no conditions. Bot thefé are promifes made, force of them to Cbrit only, and force ofthem tofallen mankind, or the world in general, orpre - efiliions what God will do by certain men unborn, unnamed, and not detcribed, called the Elea. But all this givetb no title to Pardon, or Jufiiffcation, or Salvation to any one.perfon st all. Remember therefore once for all, that the Covenant which I mean, by the Covenant ofGrace, is that which God of- fereth men in Baptifm, by the acceptance whereof we become C riftians. 3. That Gods gift of a Saviour, and New Covenant to the world, arefo free as to be without any condition : But Gods gift of Cbriff with all his benefits of 3uffification, Adoption, &ca to individual perfons, is fo free as to be without and contrary to our defert ; but not fo free as to be without any condition And that he that will fay toGod [Thy grace of pardon is not free if thou`wilt not give it me, but on condition that I ac- cept it, yea or defreit, or ask i:] fhall prove a contemner of graée, and a reproacher ofhis Saviour, and not an exalter of free grace. There is no incontinency for God tobe the giver of grace to caufe us to believe and accept ofChriti, and yet to knake a deedofgift ofhim to all on condition ofthat Faith and acceptance ; no more than it is incontinent togive Faith and Repentance, and to command them : of both which the ob- jedcrs themfelves do not teem todoubt. For he maketh both his command, and his conditionalform ofPromife to be his choien means (and moti wifely chofcn) ofworking in us the thing commanded; q.
