And here I wouldgive all fuch weak-headed Melancholy pere fons this warning, That whereas in my Bookof Reft, I fo much prefs a confiant courfe of Heavenly Me- ditation, I do intend it only for found heads, and not for the Melancholy, that have weakheads, and are unable to bear it. That may be their fin, which to others is a very great duty : While they think to do that which they cannot do, they will but difable themfelves for that which they can do. I would therefore advife thole Melancholy perfons whole minds are fo troubled, and heads weakned, that they are indanger ofoverthrowing their Underfiandings (which ufually begins inmultitudes offcruples, and refilefnefs of mind, and continual fears, and blaf- phemous temptations where it begins with thefe, diftra&ion is at hand, if not prevented) that they forbear Meditation,as being no duty to them,though it be to others ; and in fiead of it be the more in thofeduties which they are fit for : efpecia lly Con- ference with Judicious Chrittians, and Chearful and Thankful acknowledgement of Gods Mercies.
