Spiritual Peace and Comfort. 3 19 it not ( which yet is unlikely) yet let me askyou this : Didnot that Preacher, or that Book, or what- ever other means God u(ed for your Converfion, reveal to you Mifery and Mercy both together ? Did not you hear and believe that Chrift died for fin, as foon as you underftood your Sin & Mifery ? Sure I am that the Scripture reveals both together : and fo doch every found Preacher and every found Writer ( notwithftanding that the flanderous Anti - nomians do fhamelelly proclaim that we preachnot Chrift, but the Law. ) This being fo, you muff eafi- ly apprehend that it muff needs abate very muchof the ferrour, which would elfehave beenunavoid- able. If you had read or heard that you were a firmer, and the Child of Hell and of Gods wrath, and that there was no Remedy ( which is fuch a Preachingof the Law, as we muff not ufe to any in theworld, nor any fince the firft promife to Adam, muff receive ; ) Yea or if you had beard Nothing ofa Saviour for a year, or a day, or an hour after you had heard that you were an Heir of Hell; and fo the Remedy had beenbut Concealed from you , though not denied ( which ordinarily muff not be done ) then you might in all likelihood have found fome more terreurs of foul that hour. But when you heard that your fin was pardonable as foon as you heard that you were a firmer, and heard that your Mifery had a fuíjicient Remedy provided , if you would accept it, or at le& that it was not Remedi- lefs, & this as loon as you heard ofthat mifery,what wonder is it if this exceedingly abate your fears and troubles !
