Impreflions in their minds as may make them Holy or truly Heaven- ly, or may overcome in them the lnterea ofthe world and t he fleet. This being fo, you may fee great reafon, why a Turk or a Heathenmay be zealous for his Religion without Gods Spirit , or any true Sanctification, when yet you cannot be fo truly zealous for yours without ir. Indeed the fpeculative part of our Re- ligion, feparated from the Practical, or from the hard and felídenying part of the Practical, many a wicked man may be zealous for : as to maintain the Godhead, or that God is merciful!, &c. Or to maintain againft th@ Jews that Jefus is the Chrift, or again'- the Turks that he is the only Redeemer and Teacher of the Church ; or againft thePapifts that all the Chriflians in the world are C1,rifts Church as well as the Romans ; and againft the Socinians and Arrians, that (Thrift is God, &c. But this is but a fmall part of our Religion : nor loth this, or any heatheniíh Zeal, .fane#ifie the heart, or truly mortilie the flefli or overcome the world. They may contemn Life and caft it away for their Pride and vain-glory but not for the hopes of a holy and bleffed Life with God.
