This mull be done before you fall on trying your Graces toget Affurance : for you muff haveGrace, before youcandifcover it : and this is the firfl proper fpecial faving Grace (as it comprizeth that knowledge and affent which neceffarilygo before it.) This is not only the method for thole that yet neverbelieved, but alfo for them that have loft the fenfe of their faith, andfo the fight oftheir evidence. Believe again, that you may know you do believe; or t leaft maypoffefs an Accepted Saviour. When God in the Gofpel bids you, Take Jefus Chrift, and be- feecheth you to be reconciled to him ; what will you fay tohim ? If your heart anfwer Lord I am willing, Iwill accept of Chrift andbe thank it : why thgn thematch is madebetween Chrift andyou : and the marriage-Covenant is truly entred, which none can diffolve. If Chrift were not firfl willing, he would not be the fuitor, and make themotion : and ifhe be willing, andyou bewilling, what canbreak thematch ? Ifyou will fay, I cannot believe, if you underflandwhat you fay, either youmean that you cannot believe the Gofpel is true ; or elfe that you cannot be willing that Chrift fhould be yours. If it be the former, and you (peak truly, then you are a flat Infidel (yet many temptations to doubt ofthe truthofScripture, a truebeliever may have, yeaand ae}ual doubtings ; but his faith prevaileth and is victorious over them : ) But if you really doubt whether the Gofpe! be true, ufe Gods means for thedifcoveryof its truth.
