i 76 Carnal Liberty to be denied What. differenced. z . There is an Holy, Bleffed Liberty which no man muft Deny. z. There is a wicked Liberty which no man fhould defire. 3. And between thefe two there is a Com- mon, Natural, and Civil Liberty, which is good in its place, as other worldly matters are, but mit be denied,when it Rands in competition with higher and better things ; and , as all other worldlymatters, is Holy when it is Holiiy efieemed and ufed ' - that is, for God ; but finful when it is finfully efceemed and ufed,and that is for CarnalPelf. I. The firft of thefe is not to be denied, but all other Liber- ty to be denied for it. This Holy Liberty confifieth in thefe following Particulars. z . To be freed from the Power offin, which is the difability, the deformity, the death of the foul. 2. From the Guilt of fin, and the wrath of God, and the Curfe ofthe Law. 3 . To beRefiored to God by Chriff, in Union, Reconciliation, and Sanctification ; and our enthralled fpirits fetfree, to know,and love, and ferve him, and delight in' him. Where the Spirit of the Lordis, there is Liberty, 2 Cor. 3. I 7. God is the fouls Freedom who is its Lord,and life, andend, and all. 4. To be delivered fromSatan as aDeceiver, and ene , my, and executioner of the wrathof God. 5 To be freed from that Lawor Covenant of Works, which requireth that which tons is become impoffible. 6. To befreed from the burdenfom task of ufelefs Ceremonies, impofed on the Church in the times of infancy anddarknefs. 7. To be freed from theaccufa- tionsof a guiltyconfcience, and thofe felf-tormentingf which in the wicked are the fore-taftes of hell. 8. To be freed from fuch temporal judgementshere as might hinder our falvation, or our fervice of God. 9. To be free from the condemning fentence at the laft day, and the everlafiing Torments which the wicked muft endure. i o.And to be delivered into the blef- fed fight of God, and the perfect fruition and Pleatingofhim, in Perfect Love, and Joy, and Praife, to all eternity.
