Towhom, and in what refpeel. 3. How long it is to continue. To the firft, I anfwer, that it is not the might of divine foveraigntie over the creature ; for this doth fo follow the natureof God, that it is neceffary with every perfon that hath this nature : This the Sonne couldnot relinquifh, this he cannot be takenunto, , as which loth neceffariÍy agree to him, as God blefï'ed for ever. The Sonne by voluntary difpenfation rent by the Father, did empty him felfe and lay afidenot onely the right ofhaving dominion over every creature, but of exercifing and (hewing it forth in that nature he had affümed : The Father by voluntarydifpenfationdoth refigne tothe Sonne the immedi- ate execution ofall power over every creature, till the time that all thingsbe fubdued under him; This right, theone relinquifhed in the timeof his humiliation, the other doth anfwerably leavea time for the exaltationofhis Sonne, To the fecund I anfwer, this foveraignty is given to the perfonof the Sonne, both as God and man now afcended; as God, for it is a powerwhich none that is a purecreature can take or execute ; and the Scripture faith, TheLordPaid tomy Lord , that is , to Davids feede, as he was Davids Lord, according as Chrift expoundeth it by his queftion; now Davids feede wasnot DavidsLord, as man,but as God. That it is given himas man, is plaine, becaufeitis given himnow alcen- ded into heaven with his humane nature. Againe, that power is given to Chrift as man, which is to be executed by him as man; but this kingdome is executedbyChrift, fo that his manhood cloth concúrr'eas an inftrument working withhis God-head in the adminiftrationof it, lohn 5.27.
