V s the otherofmembers of the fecond Adam:now in thefirst refpeéì:,they bring forth children ofwrath; in the fecond, childrenofthe Covenant; children ofgraces,as I may fay. But here many doubts may be moved. First, how the Parent whole faith isbut for himfelfe to liveby , can by his faith infinuate his children into the Covenant. Againe, when many a Noah havechews, how faith can beleeve filch athing; forthe thingbeleeved muff be infallible. To the first, the faithof the Parent doth bringthe child into theCo- venant, yetfo as thechild liveth byhisowne faith, which isnot tobe denied in fuchas furviving come to fellowship of likeprecious faith. But many Infants dye before they come to heare and to have faith, for ought we can know; what may be faid tothis cafe They live bytheir faith, becaufe in this cafe, the faithoftheFather is the childs faith alto; For looke as it was juft with God, to reckon the deedof /dam, all our deeds: fo irisnot ill befeeming his mercy and justice, to let in this cafe, the faith ofthe Parent stand for the child. For the fecond, Faith is not wavering, though the eventanlwer not, becàufe itdoth not abfolutelyapprehend this falvation for every one, but leaveth place to Gods fecret judgements. But how can it thus conditionally beleeve without wavering c It is one thing to waver, anotherthing tobeleeve withcondition; we beleeve we shall haveoutward things, yet with condition. A thirdquestion is, how this diftinéhion can efcape a contradinion; that which is true, must be true in Tome time now ifan Infant may be borne having the Covenant ,(which in fome cafewe teach) there isno time inwhich this Infant canbePaid a childofwrath. It followeth nor, for there is nothing wherein it may not bee faid a child, though it be borne with application of the Covenant: for as the Parent hath a double person, fo hath the Infant ; in the one, it isachild of the Covenant,in theother, ofwrath.Marke for conclusion thesethree things. t. Every one is a fon ofwrath in Adam, even in that inftant, and in Godseye, with whom there is neitherpall nor to come; Wee,weare all ofus dead. 2. This wrath abideth, till applicationis madeof the bloodof Chrift. 3. If this be evenwith our first being, whenfoever it is,it taketh not away the refpedl of our naturali condition : Omiferable man that I am! &c. This was true of lehn Baptif1, yet from the wombe heewas fan- Etified. To confute the flanderous Papists and Lutherans, whowould make us Anabaptists,as denying fin Originali, denying the guilt ofit ; where we teach itin Infants, we teach it worthy of wrath ; teach the perlons as commingofAdam, children ofwrath, yet as in the Covenant ofgracc to havepardon, and thefeale is a leale fet to this, not as a foundationor beginning ofit. Secondly, wemay fee what it is that is borne ofthe fiefh, and there- fore
