How doyor make faith and repentance to be conditions of treCovenant on our part, _tieing the bellowing of them is part of the condition on Gods part ; can they be our conditions and Gods too ? In cafe thefe two cannot fland together, that they fhould be conditions, both Gods and ours; we may anfwer by way of re- tortion , and I am litre we have the better end of the flaffe, that they are our conditions ; they are conditions on our part , and therefore they cannot be Gods: that they are ours is made known, of God,as by the beame of the Sun in his word, And I Mall not Rand to diftinguilh of an abfolute and conditional Covenant,and fo making the whole in the abfolute Covenant to be Gods, and in the conditional this part to be ours ( which I know not whether exaftly underftood,the Scripture will bear ;) but in plaine termes deny that they. are Gods conditions, and affirme them to be/ours. I know what God fpeaks in his Word concerning thefe works; That he will write his Law in our hearts , and pat it into our inward parts; That he will take away the heart of(lone, and give an heart of fle.Awhich implies this work of which we fpeak. I know likewife what in particular is affirmed of Chrift, that he is the authour and fini/her of our faith, Heb. 12.2. that he gives repentance, Afts 5.31. that God grants to the Gentiles repentance to l i f e A as i 1 . 18.
