HefeCovenants are not in that manner fully and intirelyone, but there is difference in the way of Adminiftration. They are one in fubftance, conftituting one Church one Kingdome; but different in circumftances 3 upon which account they are diftin- guifhed by the names of the Old and New , the f rf and fecond Covenant. Some have made it their ambition to rife as high as may be in the number of differences, and have affigned leveral, where there is a full accord and perfeet agreement : I fhall lay down fuch,where the difference is clear; and afterward take view of thofe imaginary differences upon which any controverfie of moment hangs. T. They differ in the agents employed in admini('tration of thefe refpe(live Covenants entred of god , and upheld and continued with his people. The Old Covenant was adminiftred and held forth by Servants only, Prophets , Priefts , and fuch as God nleafed to appoint, whether by ordinary call, as thole of the Tribe of Levi, who were appointed among men in things appertaining to God. Or ex- traordinary , to whom he fpake in vifions and dreams; God in fun - dry wayes and manners (as the Apoftle to the Hebrews obferves) then /peaking to his people, Heb. r. r. The New Covenant is held forth by the Son, as in the fame place the Apoftle witneffeth. He was the Angel or Meffenger of the Covenant : upon that errand he came from the Father, clothed with our flefh. This is that great falvation,w! th NI began to be fpolen to us by the Lord, Heb. 2. 3, And this he carries on by his delegates and deputies whom from the right hand of the Father he gifts and qualifies. z. hey differ in their extent and latitude, as to the Nations tak- en into C o',enant. The Old Covenant received only the Jews; To them appertained the 'ioption,the Glory, and the Covenants, Rom. 9.4 Circumcifìon (the Seale of the Covenant) was proper to them with foi ie few of other Nations, that forgetting their own people, and their Fathers house , joyned themfelves to them, whileff
