42 The Old and New Covenant. Chap. 3 2 (3.) To make the vifible Peale of Baptifme which is the privi- ledge of the Church vifible, to be of equal latitude with the feale of the Spirit which is peculiar to invifible Members is a Paradox. (4.) The great condition to which Baptifme engages, is not a prerequifite in Baptifme. This is plain, no man is bound to make good his condition before engagement to conditions ; no fervant is tied to do his work, before he bath received earneft ; no foul - dier to fight , before he is lifted, or bath given in his name. But Faith that is juftifying to accept Chrift, is the condition to which Baptifme engages. (5.) That Faith upon which Simon )W gau in Primitive times was baptized, is that which admitteth to Baptifme ; Simon him- felfbeleeved, and was baptized, e4tts 8. i 3 . But Simons Faith !, fell fhort of faving and juftifying. (o.) In cafe only juftifying Faith give as miffion to Baptifine, then none is able to baptize ; feeing this by nor is.difcerned and' to leave it to our charity, affirming that may admit upon prefumption of a title when God denies, I have fpoken fome -- what, Chap. and I referre to Mafter Hudfon in his Vindication, whom learned Matter Baxter fo highly commends to Phew the un- reafonableneffe of it. Here it is objee`ted. Firft, When Chril faith Make me Difciples of all Nations , ba- , ptizin,.them; he means fncere Difciples, though x'e cannot ever lknoav II em to be fncere. I anfwer. In cafe I make this firft obje&ion brought againft me , my feventh and Taft argument for me ; it will fully difcover the weakneffe ofit, and thus I forme it. All that are Difciples unto Chrift, and made Difciples for Chrift, are to be baptized; but fome are made Difciples to Chrift, that are fhort of Faith fa- ving and juftifying, as bath been proved at large. This Difciple- fhip that Chrift there mentions, is fuch, of which wholeNations,. are in capacity, as is plaine in the- Commiflion., to which this Nation (with others), bath happily attained according, to the Manifold prophecies before cited; of thefe the whóle univerfal fible Church confifts fo irrefragably proved by Mafter Hudfon in ;his Treatifçi,of that fubjec`t, and. his Vindication.Now. if whole Nations ; yea, the whole Univerfal vifible Church (confiíling of aifcipled Nations) were all Beleevers, it were a great happineffe,. the Objtáions an4 f,verecL- Objeff. eArnf v.
