Ch. 38 of the qv of Beleever,r. 385 ftandej by Faith; whence I argue,That whereby the branch (lands in the teee as a branch, muß be the giving that means Whereby the branch thus (lands: But that is Faith, verf. zo. Ergo the a5Z of in- grafing re by givingFaith. ',Wm. Here ithall willingly grant the conclufion, and do affirme that it is by Faith, that grown perlons , whether Jewes or Gen- tiles do hand in a vifible Church.fellowfhip ; Such a Faith upon which all called ones, among which few are Ele&, are admitted. That gave Simon Magus title, that Hymeneue had , of which he made fhipwrack , r Tim. i. 19. Matter Tombes and his party make Faith a requifite ro Baptifme , not a Faith jultifying , but a fl' i Faith dogmatical ; a Faith of 'profeflion is fu ficient , fuch a Faith upon lotfe of it did un- Church them, now doth re- intitle them. Mailer Tombes is angry with Mailer Ceree, becaufe he doth not fo much as repeat the Medium of his Argument, or deny any pro - pofition, or diftinguiíh any terme, or thew any fallacy in it ; I hope he will not be angry with me for yielding hisconcluon. And if he will needs know where the fallacy is , it is in his Minor propofition, and fo there are foure termes in his Syliogiline. A faving Faith is fpoke to in his Argument (which renders thole that are interefted in it as Mount Sion never to be removed.) A Faith of amore flippery tenure is fpoke to in the Apoftle ; fuch whereof multitudes had made fhipwrack, falling by unbelief; and others were in danger to fall,as the Apoftle lignifies, verf. 2 O. 21. Do &or Featley in the words above mentioned , (hewing Berti- I su and the Appealer their fallacy; íhewes Mailer Tombes his. The Apoftle fpeaks of the Do &rine of Faith, Mailer Tombes of the habit. The Apoftle fpeaks de fide quans credimur, Mailer Tombes fpeaks deflate quit credimtu. The Apoftle fpeaks of the publick profellion of a Church, Mailer Tombes of a particular af- fiance ofevery Beleever in Chrift. That is more then ftrange, therefore that when Mailer Mar(bal underftands the ingraffing there meant by the Apoftle, to be admiffion into vifible Member - fhip, and vifible communion with the Church of Chrift (as Mr. Tombes relates his words in his Rating of the queftion, page 3.) he thould reply This conceit I conceived, andßill thinks fo farre from the eslpoßles expreßîons, that there Teems to 6é no Any offuck sa fenfe in-the words; Igivingin, his reafon , For there is not a word of 0 0 " 3 taki
