There is indeed no friew of fenfe in this reply unlefíe he can affirme that there is no faith, but the Faith of the Elea , and that which is juftifying; therefore if it pleafe Mailer Tombes, I. íhall enter the lifts with him in thefe three `I'ofsiions. 1. That Faith is taken in more acceptations then one in Scri- pture ; all Faith doth not entitle to the Church invifible , and therefore there is fcarce íhew offenfe in his reafon, difputing from the cerazu to the Species afrrmativè or from thejuivocum to the e%£g sivocatum. 2. That the Faith here fpoken to, is (as Doaor Featley af- ferts) the doctrine of Faith, not thehabit; Faith of Profefliion, and not a particular affiance ; fides ram, and not fides gm credi- m.î4, and foMafterTovbes his fallacy is clear ; and it will no more follow that the ingraffing is into the Church invifible , be- caufe it is by Faith then it will follow that men hunt with dog - ftarres, dog - fifhes, becaufe they hunt with dogs. 3. That there is no fuch thing in all Scripture as ingraffing into the Church invifible by Faiith ; all ingraffing is into the body .vi fible, and therefore by ,a Faith of profeflion. (I.) (3.) If faving Faith ingraffe the branch into the!Church invi- fible , then the Church invifible is the proper :ob jea:of fuck Faith; but the Church is no fuch objea of Faith but Chrift. (4.) That fuppofed ingraffing into the invifible Church is 'either known to the-body invifible, or unwitting,; if known, then it is not invifible.
