.;J4 The Birth-Priviledge and Covenant-holineffe Ch.38 Abrrtham a root by communication, and for prevention he is put to it in contradiaion to the Apoftle,as we have heard to tell us of a root communicating nothing, but an exemplary root,or an exemplary caufe of beleeving only. Secondly, that ingraffing which caufed difputation and conten- tion in forne, emulation in others upon the fight an_:',, -eport of it, was not by faving Faith only into the invilióle body, but open,vi- fible and apparant into the vifìble body ; But this ingraffing of the Gentiles into the Church of God, cauted difputation and conten- tion in fore, Aar r t. 2, 3. emulation in others, Deut. 32. 21.Rom. ro, 19. Rom. t r, 14. this therefore was into the Church viuible. Thirdly, that priviledge which is not refirained to fome few in- vifible Churches, but is the priviledge of all that are contained in ir, and members of it, is not an invisible work upon the heart co a laving change, but only an interefl in vifible priviledges, This is evident, the invif ble work is not in all, Math. 22, rat. But this here mentioned is the priviledge of the whole body, as is clear in the text , and Mailer Tombes is confirained to acknowledge; Therefore the ingraffing is only into the viGble body. That privi- ledge wherein the Jewes while they were a people of God did tranfcend the Gentiles when they were no people,is the priviledge which theft Gentiles have by their ingraffing, this is plaine, verfe 17, But it is the priviledge of Ordinances in being viably related thus to God wherein Jewes did then exceed Gentiles as hath been largely fhewen. Fourthly, that Faith from which the Jewes ac4ually fell and the Gentiles flood in danger to fall from, is not a Paving juflifying Faith, entituling to invifìble priviledges, but a Faith of profeflion only giving a vilible title. This is plaine, unleffe Mailer Tombes (to ufe his own phrafe) will maintaine Bertitu his Hymcneus de- fertor, and affert the Apoflaliie of the Saints. But this Faith where- by the Gentiles are ingraffed, is a Faith from which the Jewes fell, and from which the Gentiles were in danger to fall, vergé 20. Fifthly, that reconciliation or ingraffing, which is oppofite to calling out of a viGble Church- fiate, is an ingraffing into the Church viGble; But this reconciliation or ingraffing is oppolte to the calling out of a Church - fiate : This is plaine, Math. 21. 43. It is a calling oíß of them that bore not fruit and not a calling off in- vifìble branches. Sixthly
