So that amans words and aarions maybe faire, ingenuous, and honourable ; whofe thoughts are bafe, pro- phane and abhominable. But thoughts are the free, immedi- ate and invifible productions ofthe heart, never taken with- in the walke ofhumane juftice ; by their naturali fecrecy ex- empted frommans molt priviefearch, and all executionsof State. Their aberrations are onely cenfurable by the fearcher ofall hearts; no eye priesinto thefe fecrets, but that which is ten thoufand times brighter then the Swine : And there- fore millions ofthoughts, many thoafand formes ofima7ina- tion fpring continually out of the hearts of' men; which without feareo: maske, withoutrefiraint or refrvation, doe undiflèmblingly refemble and reprefènt the true fiate and difpofition of theheart: So that from themwe may be ever fore to take infalliblenotice, whether theheart as yet onely worke naturally, in framing them in its owne finfull mould, and feeding themwith confentand delight; or elfe be taught and guided by a fupernaturall power, tocompofe them accor- ding to the light ofGods Word, and holy motions ofhis fàr. c`tifying Spirit. Let us thenconfider, what, deepe root: theWord ofGod loth take, andwhat fpeciall foveraignty it doth exercife in the thoughtsof a fan; iked min whereby he is cleerely dif- ferenced from all ftates ofunregeneration ; even that of for- mall by ocrifìe, which [ place in a degree above civil hone- fty, and in the higheft perfection attainable by an unregene- rateman.
