Ori Wednefday laft, having been in particular con- cern for my wife, that was feafonably brought me, Pfrl. cxlvi. 7, 8. The Lord loofeth the prifoners, raifeth them that are bowed down." At family- worlhipon Thurfday'snight, having obfervedron David's leaving ten concubines of his to keep the boul'e, 2 Sam. xv. compared with chap. xii. 1 t. how, without the Spirit's bringing to remembrance, a word may be quite for- got in the feafon thereof, I got a fad experience of it prefently, after firaging Ptál: xxxvii. 8. On Saturday's night it was fweet to me to obferve in tinging verf. 2 i. ibid. that, in the way of the covenant, the fecuring provifion for our feed, lies not in getting in, but giving out: and it was comfortably brought to my remembrance, with what a good-will to do good to that man I put that funi of money in his hand. Dec. 1. Yefterday morning my fon' going away again to profecute that bufinefs aforefaid, I was obliged to give him all the money I had, fave a little ; which money should have gone for family-ufe. I was helped to trutt the Lord for provifion ; and that very night money was unexpedtedly brought to my hand, wherewith I was furnifhed for fending to the market. In the conduót of Providence, at his going firft away on that bufinefs, I Caw' how the Lord, whohad feen that ftroke deceffary for me and my family, yet had managed . me therein with fatherly pity and tendernefs, which made me very eafy about the matter. Dec. 10. Laft week, I was informed, that the third part of the Latin MS. for which I had been in concern before the Lord, was recovered. Alfo the Lord dealt favourably in my domeftic concerns. Dec. 18. Laft week I had a fit of the gravel, owing to my fuffering myfelf to be toffed with an old temptation, the fountain Of much forrów to me whereby I perceived. Providence was in earneft for fubduing my fpirit in that point. O to be like a weaned child 1 ' Jan. 8. 1728. Matters appear more hopelefs, with refpeét to my effay on the accentuation, and my wife's cafe. Only the nine ¡fleets are alfö found again. I have this feafon had two experiencesof the Lord's bearing me up, in going his errands in the parifh, notwithftanding of the cold I am fb unable to fiiffer. I'find the confideration ofélecáting love, andofaffliction, as the common lot of God's children, helpful to me for patience under .my trials. Jan. 15. Laft week, being the only week for a good time that I did not cateehife, having gone through the parith for the firft time, I had two fits of the gravel. So I fee I mutt be doing. T t2
