(2.) More par– ticularly. I .In the general, it fpeaks two things, to wit, all true happinefs, and the everlafiingnefs of that happinefs. ' Firfl, It comprehends, as the matter thereof, all t 'rue Happinefs. For life is ufed for happinefs, in the holy language, I Sam. xxv. 6. So John iv. so. And ,tis fo ufed in ·the fiile of both covenapts, Roq1. x. 5· 'The man which doth thefe things,Jhall Live (i.e. be · happy) by them, Hab. ii . 4· The juji fha/1 Live (i. e. be happy) by hisfaith. J'he damned have a life in hell , that will Jafi for ever : but in the fiile of the holy Ghofi, they never fee life, they are deprived ofeter· nal life ; becaufe their life is not a happy life, but a miferable one. It isevident from the writings of the prophets and apo!lles, that the death threatned in the covenant of works, comprehended all mifery, in this world, and in the world to come; and confequently, that the _life therein promifed, comprehended all hap– pinefs in rime and eternity. Forafmuch then as the life promifed in the covenant of grace, was defign'd for retrieving the lofs finners fufiain'd by th€ fctll; it mufi needs, in its comprehenfion, go,as wide as th'e death which thereby they became liable unto.
