Tho' the foul is the prin– cipal part, it is not the only part there~n ~rovided for: Jn virtue of the covenant ' The body ts for the Lord, and the Lord for the body,' as well as the foul is for him, and he for it, 1 Cor. vi. 13. As the body had its fhare, in the death threatned in the firfi covenant-; fo it bath, and ihall have its fhare in the 1ife promif- · ed in the fecond. Since the price of the ·Redeemer's blood was paid for the bodies of his people, in his ful– filling the condition of the covenant; the life, fecur'd in the pramife, mufi extend to them, as well as , to their fouls. ' Secondly, It -extet1ds to all the means by which that \Velfare is to be compafred, begun, advanced, and perfeCted. ' Whether Paul~ or ' Apollos, or_ Cepbas, or the world, or life, or deat4, or things ·prelent, or things to come; all are yours,' 1 Cor. iii. 22. ~or the fe(:uring of the benefit itfelf, by promife, fecures all the means by which it is to be brought about-. Hence the covenantdefcends, even tothebreadand the water, necelfary for the fupport ofnatural life, Ifa. xxxiii. 16. Secondly, The promife comprehends the Everlaj{– ingnejs of that happinefs. 'Ti~ not only life, that is promifed; but life eternal, life for evermore, Pfalm cxxxiii. 3· which, from the moment it is given, ih?ll never be extinguifhed through rhe ages of time and .eternity. In the fl:ile of the Scripture, eternal life is not refl:ricred to the fiate of glory in heaven. But the Jije communicated to a finner, in the firil moment of his union \Vith Cbrifi, is eternal; it is the eternal life promifed in .the covenant, according to the Scrip– ture, John iii. 36. ' He, that be1ieveth on th~ Son, hath evcrlafiing life.' See chap. v. 24. I John v. II, 12. Hence, from the promife of the covenant, thejufl foal!
